Deductible
The amount you must pay for eligible care before your insurance begins paying certain benefits. An ambulance ride can use part—or all—of your remaining deductible.
UNDERSTAND THE INSURANCE GAP
In an emergency, you need the right care as quickly as possible. Understanding what your health plan may leave behind helps you prepare for the financial side, too.

A covered ambulance service may still involve personal cost sharing. These are the common pieces of the bill to understand.

A fixed amount your health plan may require you to pay for a covered service. Look for the ambulance benefit in your plan’s coverage documents.
Your percentage of the allowed cost after any applicable deductible. That percentage can matter even when the insurer approves the ride.
A provider’s charge beyond what your insurer recognizes or pays. Whether you can legally be billed depends on the service, your coverage, and federal or state protections.

EMS360 eliminates eligible out-of-pocket costs under your selected emergency ambulance benefit.
Illustrative example; not a quote or claim decision. Assumes your insurer approves the full ambulance bill and coinsurance applies after the deductible. The EMS360 option assumes an active membership and an eligible emergency ambulance expense. Copays, denied charges, and legally permitted balance bills are not included in this calculation. Actual insurance payment and benefits depend on your coverage, applicable law, and Membership Agreement.
GROUND AND AIR ARE DIFFERENT
Ground ambulance services generally fall outside the federal No Surprises Act’s balance billing protections. Some states provide protections, and the rules may depend on your health plan.
Deductibles, copays, and coinsurance can still apply. Check your health plan’s ambulance benefit and your state’s rules rather than assuming an emergency ride is fully paid.
For many people with private insurance, the No Surprises Act protects covered out-of-network air ambulance services from balance billing. In-network cost sharing can remain.
Air membership protection addresses eligible remaining expenses under its terms. Having a membership does not mean giving up your insurance or billing rights.

MEDICARE IS NOT ALWAYS THE WHOLE ANSWER
Original Medicare Part B generally leaves 20% of the approved ambulance amount to you after the deductible. Medicare also applies medical necessity and destination requirements.
Medigap or other supplemental coverage may reduce your responsibility. Medicare Advantage plans have their own benefit and cost-sharing details. Review the coverage you actually have before deciding what gap you want to address.
